A long tradition
Those who climb the Arlberg eventually reach the same point: The place where hospitality has been part of the culture for over 600 years. A cozy hideaway in which the best is a given and the simplest is exquisite.
A true “Hospiz”
The name “Hospiz” (hospice) stems from the Latin word “hospitium” meaning friendly reception, hospitality, or inn. In 1386, Heinrich Findelkind from Kempten laid the foundation for the Hospiz am Arlberg in order to provide refuge to wanderers during inclement weather and founded the world’s oldest charitable association, the Brotherhood of St. Christoph . As the board of the brotherhood and friendly hosts, the modern-day host family, the Werners, preserves the original purpose of the former inn. Manager, Florian Werner, along with his wife Ursula as well as their son Thaddaeus, live the generosity that characterizes the perfect host.
